There is a lot of free and propitiatory IDEs for micro controllers. Here I like to write about MCU 8051 IDE - An open source project packaged under FEL (Fedora Electronic Lab). Intel 8051 is a standard micro controller and that's why it is essential in engineering syllabus even though some good stuffs are there in newer micro controllers from Microchip, Atmel etc. Simulating 8051 is pretty easy if you own a good 8051 IDE. There is a lot of IDEs available for 8051 simulation and emulation. But it is not a good idea to spent your valuable money for that, if such good free and open source IDEs are available. I am just coming to my point. It is about MCU 8051 IDE. It is packaged with fedora electronic lab. If you intend to stick with other OS, you need to compile the source code. Currently it supports more than 79 MCUs. Know more and how much powerful it is. I have uploaded a screencast of MCU 8051 IDE and I think it is enough to start with for a beginner who knows assembly level programming in 8051. Of course, one can write and simulate the program in C also.

Good post! I liked MCU8051IDE because is cross platform. Today I installed on ubuntu 10.04 and on vista. The IDE looks good, I will try to compile a C code to check the performance.
hi! i'm quite new to the Linux concept and i've recently installed a pendrive puppy linux booting it from my usb memory stick. I've tried installing this IDE using the .DEB file it seems to be instlled but when i try running it from the Utility menu it doesn't run. Any hints?

Hi .. i tried using this ide with a simple embedded C code for ports.. but in the simulator BIN for Ports does not change , Hex changes to the given value .. also the Led Pannel does not works as expected .. can anyone help me out with this .. thanx

I think it is better to install it in fedora. I found this program is quite buggy and crashes in almost all OS other than fedora. There's good community specialized for electronic based software is available in Fedora team.

An update in the program may clear the problem. To track the problems, a better way is that, open the program in terminal by the command, 'mcu8051ide' and do your work. When problem arrives, go to the terminal for error messages. Probably you can track the errors and find it more specifically and it will help while searching for a solution.
The tutorial isn't clear with me!! Is there any problem in your file?? The length of the file is shown as 31 minutes!! but it is playing for 3 minutes only!! Is there any problem???

It is a video of length 3.19 minutes. In 'Totem movie player' it is playing without any problem. But in 'VLC media player', it shows the size as 31minutes. I just didn't understand the reason. But I hope you can watch the video in any players without any problem.
